The Fluval 05 Range of External Canister Filters

There are four filters in the Hagen Fluval 05 range plus the very large FX5:
- Fluval 105 – Shifts 125 gallons per hour (480LpH) suitable for up to a 25 gallon (100L) tank
- Fluval 205 – Shifts185 gallons per hour (680LpH) suitable for up to a 50 gallon (200L) tank
- Fluval 305 – Shifts 260 gallons per hour (1000LpH) suitable for up to an 80 gallon (300L) tank
- Fluval 405 – Shifts 340 gallons per hour (1300LpH) suitable for up to a 100 gallon (400L) tank
- Fluval FX5 – Shifts 607 gallons per hour (2300LpH) suitable for up to a 400 gallon (1500L) tank
The big advantage of an external canister filter is that it can be as large as you like but hidden away behind or in a cupboard below your tank. It als omeans that the filter media is accessible without disturbing any of your tank features.
All of the Fluval units have a self-priming instant-start system that eliminates the need for manual siphoning They also have an aqua stop feature which means you can disconnect the filter from its inlet and outlet pipes without any water gushing out so eliminating leaks and water spills during maintenance. A clog free intake strainer is also an important feature. In addition, the 105 – 405 series come with the filter media already packed into the media baskets for easy startup.
The FX5 unit in addition features a purge valve that allows for partial discharge of debris without needing to move the unit as well as multi-directional twin output nozzles to create specific water flows. It also has a lift-out stack of media baskets for easy maintenance. The unit comes with 6 foam filter blocks but additional filter media is sold separately.
